Successful celebration of 50 years of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy

Celebrating 50 Years of Sacrosanctum Concilium.

The National Centre for Liturgy held a very successful two day celebration of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, promulgated at the Second Vatican Council on 4 December 1963, fifty years ago.  The principal speaker was J Michael Joncas, the well-known composer and scholar from St Paul-Minneapolis.  The celebration included a round table with Michael on Friday afternoon, 22 November, with a panel of speakers, including Bishop Harold Miller of Down and Dromore, chair of the Church of Ireland Liturgical Advisory Committee, Sr Anne Codd,  Fr Peter McVerry, SJ and Dr Frank Lawrence of the School of Music, UCD.

A public lecture by Michael Joncas took place on Friday evening, with a response from Julie Kavanagh.  On Saturday, 23rd November, Michael held a music workshop that saw a full attendance. The timing of this workshop was very appropriate –  22nd November is feast of St Cecilia, patron of music.
