Pathway to the Synod – Diocesan Pilgrim Walk

The Diocese of Waterford & Lismore is currently preparing for a Synodal pathway, that will be encompassed with the wider Church around the world.

Our Diocesan launch was on 17th October in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Waterford.  A meeting was held in Mallow, Co Cork on 10th November  for all the task force groups from the Munster region.  Our Diocese was well represented and it was a very successful meeting.  A synodal task force committee has been formed in the Diocese and this will become a bigger group of people as we move towards the actual timeframe of Synod itself.  More details can be found by clicking on the Synod Website.

The Church of God is convoked in Synod. With this convocation, Pope Francis invites the whole Church to question itself on synodality:
a decisive theme for the life and mission of the Church. The website outlined above will accompany the two-year journey (2021-2023) of reflection and sharing of the whole Church.

To begin our own diocesan journey, a Synodal pilgrim walk will be held on Saturday 11th December.  You are invited to assemble at Mount Melleray Abbey at 11am and from there, you will walk to the Cross.  You will get an opportunity to  ‘walk and talk’ Church as you go.

Prayer for the Synod:

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.
