This year sees the 40th anniversary of the installation of the Kenneth Jones Pipe Organ at Mt Melleray Abbey and to mark the anniversary there are several events planned throughout the year.
The next occasion is a ‘songs of praise’ type celebration on the afternoon of Sunday 26th May.
Choirs and individual singers are invited to participate in this joyful musical celebration which takes place in the Abbey Church and will feature well-established hymn favourites as well as some newer liturgical music.
It will begin with a workshop from 2pm-4pm led by the abbot, Dom Richard Purcell, at which all music which will be used in the celebration will be taught. This will be followed by light refreshments.
The liturgical celebration will take place at 5pm. Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan of Waterford and Lismore will preside. In addition to the Kenneth Jones organ musical accompaniment will be provided by a Brass Quartet.
Price is €5 and will include music book and refreshments
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL THROUGH MOUNT MELLERAY ABBEY and must be done by Thursday 23rd May
