Goatenbridge to Mt. Melleray Abbey
Message below from Fr. Denis Luke O’Hanlon, Mount Melleray Abbey.
You are very welcome on our February 29th walk.
BACKGROUND: St. Declan’s Way is a walk from Cashel to Ardmore based on the tradition that St. Declan walked from Ardmore to Cashel to meet St. Patrick. This is a walk of over 100kms in 5 stages. On the 29th Feb. we are doing the 3rd stage from Goatenbridge to Mt. Melleray. The newly-developed Declan’s Way will be of great recreational benefit to the people of Waterford and Tipperary as well as a great boost to their economy. This walk also has great spiritual possibilities.
Monsignor Michael Olden, in the opening sentence of his book, The Faith Journey of the Deise People says his aim is: “to tell a story and to offer encouragement to people who are on their own journey of faith”. Walking the St. Declan’s way could also encourage people on their faith journey. Pilgrims walk and talk with others and have time to get in touch with the world and with ourselves. They have time to reflect and wonder, to pray and be thankful. The format and imput on our walking retreat on Feb. 29th will be simple, people can take part in their own way and hopefully have a pleasant experience.
