The Diocese of Waterford and Lismore are going to be part of the World Youth Day 2016. This wonderful event will take place in Krakow, Poland from July 25th to 30th.
WYD is open to all young people who want to take part in a festive encounter with their contemporaries centered on Jesus Christ. This event is an opportunity to experience in first person the universality of the Church; to share with the whole world the hope of many young people who want to commit themselves to Christ and others. World Youth Day is a unique way to deepen your faith and grow closer to Christ, by means of prayer and the sacraments, together with thousands of other young people who share their interests and ambitions.
It is expected that 2 million young people will be part of this pilgrimage. Many of them are actively reflecting on the chosen theme “Blessed are the Merciful”.
Some will visit other dioceses in Poland to experience days in the diocese in the local church. Each morning pilgrims will receive catechesis in parishes around the greater region of Krakow.
Pope Francis will be welcomed to WYD on Thursday 28th July. he will also lead the Way of the Cross on the Friday.
Please pray for the success of this wonderful event, and for the safe travel of Bishop Cullinan, youth leaders and pilgrims from the Diocese.
