The Diocese of Waterford and Lismore has learned with deep sadness of the death of Fr David Keating.
On behalf of the clergy, religious and faithful of the Diocese, we extend our sincere sympathy to Fr David’s family, friends, and his brother priests. This is a painful loss for all who knew him and for those who were touched by his ministry.
A native of the Parish of St Joseph, St Benildus and St Mary, Waterford, Fr David was educated at St John’s College, Waterford, and was ordained to the priesthood in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on 5 June 1983. Over the course of his priestly ministry, he served as curate in Dunhill (1983), St Paul’s, Waterford (1985), Kilgobinet (1990), St Mary’s, Clonmel (1992), and Holy Family parish (1998).
Fr David was appointed Chaplain to Waterford Institute of Technology in September 1999 and continued in chaplaincy ministry through the transition to South East Technological University, serving students and staff for over 26 years with quiet dedication and care.
He will be remembered with gratitude for his pastoral commitment and for the many lives he touched through his ministry.
Reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack St, Waterford on Friday (13th February) from 7:00pm to 8:30pm with vigil prayers and Rosary at 8:00pm.
Requiem Mass on arrival in St. Mary’s Church, Ballygunner on Saturday (14th February) at 1:00pm followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
