What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day (WYD) is a vibrant and transformative event where young people from all corners of the world come together to pray, celebrate, and share their joy and enthusiasm with the Pope. This Catholic Pilgrimage is a joyful celebration of the universal Church and provides incredible opportunities for young people to deepen their faith, appreciate its beauty and joy, and desire to share that faith with others. Established by Pope John Paul II in 1985, World Youth Day aims to unite young Catholics in a shared experience of faith, culture, and community. Held every two to four years, this international gathering takes place in a city selected by the Pope, who is always present to lead and guide the event.
When is the next World Youth Day?
World Youth Day 2027 will take place in Seoul, South Korea from 3rd – 8th August 2027.

- Open to 18 – 35 year olds (must be 18 at time of travel)
- Limited Places available.
- Dates: TBC (circa 31st July – 10th August)
- Price: TBC €2500 – €3000 (flight prices not yet available)

What Makes Seoul Special?
The 2027 World Youth Day will be the first to be held in South Korea and the second in Asia, following the historic gathering of young people in Manila, Philippines, in 1995. Korea’s Catholic history is rich. Pope John Paul II visited in 1984 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Korean Catholic Church, during which he canonised 103 Korean martyrs. Korea’s Catholic history has been long and complex, including an intense century-long persecution that resulted in many martyrs for the faith. Today, the faith is thriving in South Korea.
Expected Scale
The organisers are expecting around 400,000 participants.
