Diocesan Mission 2024

Announcement!

A group of 24 Canadian Missionaries from Catholic Christian Outreach™ (CCO™) will arrive in the diocese on 11th June following a week-long Parish Mission in the Diocese of Raphoe. They will help to facilitate a mission here in the diocese from 12th – 16th June.

Please use our drop-down menu to learn more about the Mission and how you can participate!

What is the Light of Hope Diocesan Mission?
Through a providential and unexpected link, Catholic Christian Outreach™ (CCO™) expressed an interest in joining us for a mission in our diocese this year, travelling here after they complete a parish mission in Raphoe Diocese. Rather than base CCO™ in just one area for the week, we prayerfully discerned that a broader Diocesan Mission including training workshops would be a fantastic development of our Pastoral Plan and hopefully a springboard for more lay involvement at parish and diocesan level throughout our diocese.

Their mission, which is aimed at all age groups, will include activities such as meeting & greeting parishioners after morning Masses, Lightfever, Street Outreach, Encounter event for Young Adults, Music, Prayer and Testimony.

They will also facilitate three training sessions for all who are involved throughout the diocese in any area of ministry in our parishes or who simply want to be more confident in expressing their faith to others.

The highlight of the mission will be a special diocesan afternoon of celebration of Pilgrim Walks and prayer at Mount Melleray on Sunday 16th June.

Who is the Mission for?

This Mission is for everyone in our diocese, young and old, those involved in parish life and those who are just curious about what the Church has to offer!  All are welcome!

Who are Catholic Christian Outreach™ (CCO™)?

Catholic Christian Outreach™ (CCO™) is a university student movement dedicated to evangelisation, to building leaders for the renewal of the world, to helping others come to know Jesus and grow in a relationship with God and the Catholic Church, and to in turn teach them how to reach others.

They challenge young adults to live in the fullness of the Catholic faith with a strong emphasis on becoming leaders in the renewal of the world. CCO are also involved in parish outreach and leadership training. CCO™ have been working with teams in the Dioceses of Raphoe and Cork & Ross for the past number of years, helping to form leaders at parish level.

CCO™ will travel here with nineteen young Canadian missionaries, four team leaders and their founder in June and we look forward to welcoming them to our diocese.

"How to Share your Faith with Others" training sessions
  • Are you involved in parish life, ministry or evangelisation, or would you like to be?
  • Are you lacking confidence in explaining the essentials of the Catholic faith?
  • Would you like to be more confident sharing personally with family, friends and colleagues what your faith means to you?
  • Are you interested in networking with others involved in evangelisation and ministry?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us for one of the “How to share our faith with others” training sessions running as part of the Light of Hope Diocesan Mission in June. Participants are given easy-to-learn tools and methods to reach out to others which transform their own and others’ spiritual lives. Donation only.

How can I help?
  • Firstly, please pray for the success of this Diocesan Mission!
  • Secondly, be there! You are more than welcome to attend any of the events and we encourage you to take time to chat with our Canadian guests as well as people from your own parish and other parishes throughout the diocese!
  • Thirdly, invite someone! Help us spread the word and encourage others to come! Who knows, this could be exactly the opportunity the Lord has in mind to touch the heart of your family member, friend, colleague or neighbour and change their lives! Share our posts about the mission on social media or through WhatsApp groups, and if someone keeps coming to mind for a particular event, reach out to them. At worst they can say no…. at best they have a real encounter with Jesus Christ!
  • Finally, if you are in a position to help us financially in any way, big or small, please consider donating to our Evangelisation Fund. The Mission events are run on a donation only basis but we do have costs to cover (bus hire, meals, printing and other mission expenses). CCO™ fundraise a large part of their mission, and will be covering their own air travel costs as well as subsidised accommodation costs at Glencomeragh House. If you would like to donate, you can do so at any of the events, or by lodging money to our Evangelisation Fund.
