Pilgrimages

Lourdes Diocesan Pilgrimage

The Diocese of Waterford and Lismore travel to Lourdes each year in June, taking over 100 sick pilgrims on a pilgrimage of faith and hope to Our Lady’s Shrine.  They are accompanied by doctors, nurses, handmaids, brancardiers, youth team, choir and many others who give freely of their time to help with the sick.  The pilgrimage has been going for well over 50 years.

The pilgrimage is led by Bishop Alponsus Cullinan, with the pilgrimage director, Fr. Martin Keogh.  Many priests from the Diocese also travel and assist with the LIturgies.  The programme is made up of daily Mass with Eucharistic Procession and Torchlight Procession each day.  The pilgrimage also pray the High or Low Stations of the Cross.  Many people take a bath in the healing water of Lourdes.  A Penitential service is also included in the itinerary.

The council is made up of various representatives throughout the Diocese who help to plan the pilgrimage each year and ensure a safe and pleasant time for everyone.

If you would like to help in any way during our pilgrimage, please phone St. John’s Pastoral Centre, Waterford and your call will be directed to the relevent personnel.

Knock Diocesan Pilgrimage

The annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on the first Sunday of May each year.  The Diocese travels by bus from the various corners of the Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan.  While there, the pilgrims attend Mass and Anointing of the Sick, as well as receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation if they wish.  The Rosary is recited during the pilgrimage and time for private prayer is also important.

Please look for information on the next pilgrimage in your local parish Church.
