World Day of the Sick – Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes – 11th February

On Wednesday 11th February, we celebrate World Day of the Sick on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.  For the 34th World Day of the Sick (Feb 11, 2026), Pope Leo XIV focuses on the theme “The compassion of the Samaritan: loving by bearing another’s pain,” urging a “Samaritan” style of life to counter indifference. He emphasizes that true remedies for suffering stem from a, love-based lifestyle rooted in God, calling for concrete, compassionate action.

The Prayer for healing is outlined below.

O ever-Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy,
health of the sick, refuge of sinners,
comforter of the afflicted,
you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings;
look with mercy on me.
By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes,
you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary,
whence you dispense your favours;
and already many sufferers have obtained
the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal.
I come, therefore, with complete confidence
to implore your maternal intercession.
Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests.
(mention your petition)
Through gratitude for your favours,
I will endeavour to imitate your virtues,
that I may one day share your glory,
and bless you in eternity. Amen.
